A lonely screech echoes across the skies
Breaking the silence of the closing day
And in he soars
Majestic
His wings locked
Beautiful
He is the undisputed king of the skies
Resplendent in his plumage and skill
Slowly he circles
Fighting the wind
Yet using it
Holding himself motionless
As he waits
For some small movement
Suddenly
His wings fold as he dives down
His prey spotted
And doomed to die
In a flurry of feathers and fur
The rabbit is caught
And the fledglings fed for another day
Then once again
He effortlessly takes off
To resume his lonely vigil
Soaring high above our petty cares
As a lonely screech echoes across the skies
Breaking the silence of the closing day
